The War Memorial. – A lych-gate and a mural tablet in the church were dedicated ass war memorial at a special service on Sunday evening, July 25th. Mr Keyser unveiled the tablet and delivered a sympathetic address. The tablet, the gift of Mr Keyser, is of carved oak beautifully carved and adorned, the colour being in keeping with the decoration of the church. It bears the inscription:- “To the glory of God and in loving memory of the heroes from this parish who gae their lives for King and Country in the Great War,” and the following names on two parallel columns on the main portion of the tablet: Francis Charles George Buckland, Albert Lewis Buckland, Ernest Coleman, Edward Collyer, Walter Cripps, Maurice Galt, James Henry Gay, John William Gay, Herbert Greatrix, Shirley Harris, Hubert Roxby Iremonger, Frederick James Jacob, Sidney Ralph Jacob, George Benjamin Jones, Gilbert Leonard Saunders, Augustus James Smith, William James Slade, Arthur Dick Tull, Roland Henry Walters, Harvey George Winkworth. The lych-gate, which was provided by the subscriptions of the parishioners is of carved English oak on a stone foundation, and was erected by Messrs Hoskings Bros, of Newbury, from the design of Mr C F May. It bears the inscription on the north side: “Erected 1920 by the inhabitants of Aldermaston to the glory of God and in loving memory of the men from this parish who fell in the war, 1914--1918.” It bears on the south side the simple inscription, “They rest from their labours.”
