Sacred to the memory / of Arthur William Pearson RN / Assistant Paymaster HMS Cameleon / Born 15 Feb 1848 Drowned 25 May 1872 / at San Blas North Pacific near / the ruined cathedral of which place / his remains are laid to rest in hope / of the resurrection of the dead. / This memorial is erected by the officers / and men of HMS Cameleon and by those / who loved him at home to record their great / esteem and affection for one whom / God called to an early grave.
