Inscription:
To the dear memory of/ Philip Musgrave Neeld/ Wroughton/ of Woolley Park./ born 30th August 1887/ died 19th April, 1917. aged 29./ J.P. for the County of Berks./ Major Berkshire Yeomanry./ The beloved elder son of/ Philip and Evelyn Mary/ Wroughton./ He served with his regt. at/ the outbreak of war Aug. 1914/ in Egypt & Gallipoli where/ he was wounded 21st Aug. 1915./ He was killed in action in/ Palestine at the 2nd Battle/ of Gaza while leading his/ squadron in an attack on/ Atawineh Ridge./ His body is laid to rest in the/ military cemetery at Gaza./ This tablet is erected by his/ mother & sisters as a tribute/ to his manly and lovable/ character, Christian life/ and gallant death./ "greater love hath no man than this/ that a man lay down his life for his/ friends"
