Ashampstead War Memorial
The War Memorial Tablet was unveiled at an afternoon service on Sunday, June 19th, by Mrs G Herbert Morrell, and dedicated by the Rev T W Gilbert, BD, Rector of Bradfield, who also gave an eloquent and sympathetic address to a crowded congregation, The Comrades of the Great War (secretary, Mr A Grace), who were in attendance in excellent numbers, gave a beautiful wreath, and there were many other floral tributes from relatives and friends. The tablet is of white marble with green marble frame, and was executed and fixed by Messrs Farmer and Brindley, London. The names on the tablet are as follow: F Bailey, O Furnell, A F Goodchild, P O Knight, W Jackson*, G Marshall, L H Sparks and W Taylor.
The service was of a most impressive and touching character.
* The newspaper article has the name W Jackson, this is incorrent and should read W Larkcom.
